Austin’s Favorite Summer Spots: Natural Swimming Holes

There are a wide range of swimming pools in the Autin area, giving you plenty of options for cooling off on hot Texas day. These popular swimming holes each boast a unique Austin ambiance and are naturally fed from spings and creeks.

Hamilton Pool and Nature Preserve. Hmilton Pool is not well- known outside of the Austin area, but it’s a favorite summer spot for locals. This natural, creek-fed pool is located in a tucked away location about thirty miles outside of Autin off of Highway 71. Parking is limited to just 75 cars, ensuring the swimming pool filter cleaning is never over-crowded. However, with limited parking, you should plan to arrive at Hamilton Pool earlive in the day to avoid waiting in line to get a parking spot.
The pool is a beautiful oasis that was created from a creek running over sunken grotto. With a 45-fool waterfall, turquoise waters, a beach area, and shade from the grotto walls, Hamilton Pool is among the most beautiful natural landscapes in the aera. A steep, quarter mile hike is required to get from the parking lot to the pool, so wear appropriate shoes. The pool closes periodically after het rains due to unsafe water or trail conditions, so call ahead to ensure the park is open before you make the drive out to Hamilton Pool.
